PEER REVIEW STATUS

As part of our commitment to fostering a strong and inclusive literary community, Eleventh Hour Literary is invested in a transparent peer review process. All submissions to Eleventh Hour Literary are read blindly by a minimum of two editors. Published works are vetted by the entire editorial team. First round form rejection letters are sent if neither editor, reading independently, feels the work is a good fit for Eleventh Hour Literary.

If one or both editors feel the work merits further consideration, that work is passed on to a third editor. If the third editor also feels the work is potentially publishable, she or he will pass it on for final round consideration. If not, the editor will send a tiered rejection letter.

Final round manuscripts are read by the entire editorial board, and each manuscript is assigned a rank. The ten highest-ranked manuscripts will be published, and anything below the top ten will be sent the highest-tiered rejection, often with an invitation to submit again.  For contests, the top-ranked submission in each reading period is awarded $200.00 upon publication.
