ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE STATEMENT

The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. Any kind of unethical behavior is not acceptable, and Eleventh Hour Literary does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. Authors submitting work to Eleventh Hour Literary affirm that manuscript contents are original and are not incorporating AI (Artificial Intelligence) in any form.

The following duties outlined for editors, authors and reviewers are based on the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors. Editors, authors, and reviewers will also adhere to the MLA submission guideline policies.

Duties of Editors

Publication Decisions: Based on the review reports, the manuscript will be accepted, rejected, or a request will be made for modifications to the manuscript and re-review.

Review of Manuscripts: As part of our commitment to fostering a strong and inclusive literary community, Eleventh Hour Literary is invested in a transparent peer review process.  All submissions to Eleventh Hour Literary are read blindly by a minimum of two editors. Published works are vetted by the entire editorial team. First-round form rejection letters are sent if neither editor, reading independently, feels the work is a good fit for Eleventh Hour Literary.

If one or both editors feel the work merits further consideration, that work is passed on to a third editor. If the third editor also feels the work is potentially publishable, she or he will pass it on for final round consideration. If not, the editor will send a tiered rejection letter.

Final round manuscripts are read by the entire editorial board, and each manuscript is assigned a rank. The ten highest-ranked manuscripts will be published, and anything below the top ten will be sent the highest-tiered rejection, often with an invitation to submit again.

Fair Review: The editors must ensure that each manuscript received by Eleventh Hour Literary is reviewed for its creative content without regard to sex, gender, disability, race, religion, citizenship, etc. of the authors.

Confidentiality: The editors must ensure that information regarding manuscripts submitted by the authors is kept confidential.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards: Manuscripts will follow the submission guidelines of the journal.

Originality: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original work.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works: If at any point of time, the author(s) discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in submitted manuscript, then the error or inaccuracy must be reported to the editors.

Duties of Reviewers

Confidentiality: Information regarding manuscripts submitted by authors should be kept confidential and be treated as privileged information.

Promptness: In the event that a reviewer feels it is not possible for him/her to complete review of manuscript within stipulated time then this information must be communicated to the managing editor, so that the manuscript could be sent to another reviewer.
