SPOTLIGHT: Marie Anne Arreola

Marie Anne Arreola, whose poem, “BETA” was featured in the Winter 2026 issue of Eleventh Hour, has her debut novel, “Sparks of the liberating spirit who trapped us,” releasing within the year from Foreshore Publishing (UK).

In addition, her directorial debut short film, Aterrizaje Lunar, is entering its exhibition stage.

Arreola is a Rotten Tomatoes accredited critic, a two-time finalist for the Francisco Ruiz Udiel Latin American Poetry Prize (V and VI editions) from Valparaíso Ediciones, and the recipient of the Gutiérrez Lozano Foundation’s 2024 Young Poets Scholarship. Her writing explores how artistic expression serves as a compass through systems of patriarchy, displacement, and digital reinvention. Centering grassroots cultural production, she examines how independent creativity challenges elitism, expands access, and redefines contemporary understandings of art. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of PROYECTO VOCES, a digital magazine based in Sonora, Mexico, that serves to amplify emerging voices in literature, design, music, and fashion.
